Apulian dream at Masseria San Martino

It is challenging to express in words the marvelous stay at Masseria San Martino. I would describe it as an idyllic escape full of genuine flavours and authentic smiles. Masseria San Martino is a XVII Century family run farmhouse in the Puglia’s most spectacular countryside of the Valle d’Itria.

Surrounded by its twelve hectares of protected secular olive trees, it is an oasis of peace, where you enjoy a comfortable vacation while having a full experience among the most authentic tastes of Puglia.  In addition to the century-old olives grove, the family owns an organic garden and produces a tasty organic extra virgin olive oil, different fruits and vegetables. If you are lucky and you visit them in early October, you may join their picturesque olives harvest. With great passion and experience, the family organises also workshops of typical Apulian cuisine. You can even get married at Masseria San Martino: there is a cute little church on the propriety! Can you imagine the charm of a party under the olive trees? It is a shame that I am already married!

During the breakfast in typical Apulian style we could relish every Apulian specialty. Besides their precious oil and products from the garden, we tasted traditional sweet and savory products like homemade jams, cakes, delicious bread accompanied by different types of cold cuts, cheese and mozzarella. I still feeling in my mouth the unique taste of their baked olives and dreaming the suggestiveness of the venue. Guests can enjoy breakfast in the old oil millfrantoio – where for centuries the olives have been pressed and the oil produced. Just unreal.

Within a few minutes drive from Masseria San Martino you can visit the most delightful villages of Puglia such as Ostuni, Polignano or Alberobello. At the same time from its rooftops you can see the shore of the Adriatic Sea!
My personal advice is to visit the less known villages around it. Personally I was very impressed by Monopoli on the sea, Locorotondo and Cisternino, both perched on the hills. The Caves of Castellana must also be visited!
Masseria San Martino is located in a beautiful rural setting and is the perfect location to discover the country with its traditions and culture, little villages and fully equipped beaches. I couldn’t wish for anything better and hope to return very soon!

***Plus. My suggestions for good restaurants nearby: Taverna della Gelosia and Osteria Monacelle in Ostuni, Caffe` Serafini in Polignano and Ristorante Da Bina in Locorotondo are my highlights.
