MY SARDINIA

best Sardinia to visit vienna blo

At the beginning of October I got the chance to cross off another dream destination from my bucket list: Sardinia, Italy. With summer coming to an end, I was a bit down while waiting for the dark and cold Viennese winter. This trip made my start into the cold and gloomy season a little bit sweeter!
The temperatures in October are still quite high in Sardinia, it is much less touristy and prices much more affordable. What better occasion then? Ah yes, kite surfing! Being always windy it is also ideal for kite and wind surfing lovers. Not to forget that it is also a land rich in history, flavours and colours that offers much more than just the sea.

Our tour led us to explore the northern part of Sardinia, starting from San Teodoro, through the Emerald Coast, the region of Gallura, the archipelago of La Maddalena to Stintino. We stayed in San Teodoro, near Olbia, on the north-east coast. We moved then to the Archipelago of La Maddalena, only 15 minutes by ferry from the port of Palau. To reach the beach La Pelosa in Stintino on the north-west coast we stopped briefly in the town of Sassari and we visited along the way, in the region of Gallura an ancient nuragic archaeological site, i Nuraghi, and a Giants’ tomb, Tombe dei Giganti, among the most beautiful preserved so far.
The sea is everywhere crystal clear with more or less white sand depending on the beach. Renting a boat you can discover and stop in coves not reachable otherwise. I recommend it to you! Sardinia has some of the most spectacular beaches in the Mediterranean sea and some of the cleanest and clearest water I have ever seen.

In San Teodoro we stayed at the Resort Terra di Mare (direct link) a delightful hotel with swimming pool & indoor Spa with an elegant ambiance and refined design. Oh guys, I had such a great time there! Their breakfasts by the pool and the offer of they beauty treatments are excellent. A plus is the possibility to park your car and reach the beautiful beach “La Cinta” through their comfortable Mercedes-Benz Taxi service, included in their rate. So you can comfortably avoid paying for parking at the beach. Not bad at all! To invest the money in a good Italian style Aperitivo is much better 🙂 Moreover I can’t forget their kindness and professionalism. A resort that I absolutely recommend you!

In La Maddalena Island I stayed in a fabulous bed & breakfast called Casa Ivla (direct link) in the main square just in part to the cute little church. I had a warm welcome and full assistance. My mini apartment was really delightful with refined details and equipped with everything you can ask, even the wash machine.

What to do absolutely:

Don’t miss La Cinta, Cala Branchini, Lo Impostu beanch in San Teodoro. Close to Porto Cervo, Spiaggia del Principe, Spiaggia Bianca and Golfo degli Aranci.

Admire flamingos in the San Teodoro Lagoon. Breathtaking especially during sunset!

Archipelago of La Maddalena is a National Park and quiet place of turquoise lagoons, deserted islands and the most heavenly beaches in Sardinia: the suggestive Testa del Polpo and the wild Cala Trinita in La Maddalena Island; Spiaggia del Relitto, Cala Coticcio e Cala Serena in Caprera Island. Rent a boat to Budelli Island.

Visit the nuragic Archelogic sites of La Prisgiona (direct link) and the Giants’ tomb of Li Longhi (direct link)and the fabulous Stazzo Lu Ciaccaru Resort and Restaurant in the village of Arzachena.

Taste the Sardinian tradition: a glass of Mirto liqueur, the Porceddu, the Sardinian gnocchi and enjoy the crunchiness of the Carasau bread all accompanied by a glass of excellent Cannonau red wine.

Stop in the following restaurants: Da Silvio, Il Giardinaccio, Da Nardino, Stazzo Lu Ciaccaru. In La Maddalena Restaurant Zi Anto` on the beach of Punta Tegge with a beautiful sunset over the sea.

See ya next time, beautiful Sardinia! ♥ Hope to come back soon!
