AUSTRIAN SKI RESORT SAALBACH HINTERGLEMM

Austrian Ski Resort Saalbach Hinterglemm vienna blogger tips

Here we are with a new year, full of energy and quite big intentions after getting a lot of rest on vacation, between the mountains and the sea in Marsa Alam, exactly like the last year. I have to say that I also started my Christmas holiday in the best possible way I could desire! Waiting for Christmas with my family, a few days before going back to Italy I spent the weekend on the Austrian Alps and put my skis back on for the first time again! Oh guys, how I love skiing!

I’m originally from the Dolomites area and so I’m quite used to nice and panoramic ski area… but I got really impressed by the Saalbach-Hinterglemm resort (link)!  The ski area is really huge, with many slopes (270 km, 70 modern lifts) that can satisfy every skier, from the beginner to the pro. Moreover they are distributed along a couple of valleys which, thanks to perfect connections, allow to circle the full area by not taking 2 times the same slope! These are really wide, allowing to find your way also in a crowded day. Not bad at all!

Kind of technical advice. The snow was sufficiently prepared and softly groomed, as for my experience quite typical in Austria, therefore I suggest to bring soft skis in order to fully enjoy the amazing resort also in peak season. I normally ride the Atomic Race SL but, even if I love them, I would suggest softer ones for a full day. Last day I rented a couple of Head “Magnum Super Shape” that are very suitable for this kind of track condition and I had a lot more fun on soft and partially groomed snow of those days.

Don’t forget: Kaiserschmarren, Pinzgauer Kasnocken and Salzburger Nockerl, Gröstl… Austrian traditional cuisine are waiting for you at the 60 ski huts in the Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm. I ate very well and with taste especially after a whole day of skiing! Cannot wait to be there again!
